District Director

Candidate:

Sara Mayer, DTM

As a seasoned Toastmaster, Sara has served in numerous leadership capacities in the District, including as Program Quality Director for 1.5 terms, District Chief Judge, Area Director, and Division Director. Additionally, Sara’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for community engagement led her to establish and chair the Celebrations Committee, creating memorable experiences and fostering a sense of camaraderie among members.

In each role, she has played a pivotal role in enhancing the quality and effectiveness of programs, expanding reach, and empowering individuals to realize their full potential through public speaking and leadership opportunities.

As a founding member of The Junior League of Phoenix Toastmasters Club, she has played a pivotal role in nurturing a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Outside of Toastmasters, Sara is the CEO of Sara Mayer Consulting & Impact Unleashed: The Nonprofit Edition, where she empowers organizations to maximize their impact and achieve sustainable growth. A sought-after speaker, podcast host of two shows, prolific blogger, and featured author with three articles in Toastmasters Magazine, Sara is dedicated to sharing her expertise and inspiring others to unlock their full potential.

Program Quality Director

Candidate:

Tom Tiboni, DTM

Tom Tiboni, DTM, is a seasoned Toastmaster with a rich history of service and dedication to District 3. Since joining Toastmasters in April 2010, he has demonstrated his commitment to personal and professional growth through his active involvement and numerous leadership roles.

Tom’s journey in Toastmasters culminated in the achievement of the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) designation in October 2017, a significant milestone symbolizing his mastery of communication and leadership skills within the organization.

Throughout the years, Tom has served District 3 in various leadership capacities, showcasing his leadership abilities and passion for fostering growth and development within the Toastmasters community. From his tenure as Area Director to his roles as Club Retention Chair, District Contest Manager, Division Director, and Club Growth Director, Tom has consistently contributed to the advancement of Toastmasters’ mission.

His commitment to excellence extends beyond Toastmasters into his professional life at Bank of America, where he has dedicated nearly 34 years of service. Tom’s integration of Toastmasters principles into his career has undoubtedly contributed to his success, as evidenced by his four promotions within the past seven years, culminating in his recent appointment as Vice President in 2024.

Outside of his professional and Toastmasters endeavors, Tom finds joy and companionship in his home in Mesa, where he resides with his feline companions, Baxter and Bruna.

As Tom looks forward to his next role in District Leadership, his enthusiasm and dedication are evident. He humbly seeks the support of the District Council, inviting their vote at the upcoming meeting as he continues his journey of service and leadership within Toastmasters District 3.

Club Growth Director

Candidate:

Jill D. Kipnes, DTM

Jill Kipnes, DTM, has been a member of the Junior League of Phoenix (JLP) Toastmasters Club since September, 2017. Jill is very involved with Toastmasters on all levels – Club, Area, and District.

For the Junior League of Phoenix Club, Jill served as President in 2020-21 and served as VP Membership from 2018-20. She is proud of how, as President, she guided her club members through a difficult year and helped her club become President’s Distinguished for the 4th consecutive year. She was awarded the Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year for the JLP Toastmasters Club in 2020-21 and 2022-23.

Jill is currently serving as the Division Director for the C Division and the TLI Chair.  Jill has also served as the District Conference Chair, Area Director, Corporate Liaison, and the Co-District Contest Manager.  In 2023, Jill was awarded the District 3 Director Service Award.

In addition to Toastmasters, Jill is the Immediate Past President of the Junior League of Phoenix Foundation and is an active volunteer through the Junior League of Phoenix.

She currently works for H&R Block as an Enrolled Agent/Master Tax Advisor and is in her 28th tax season.  She is also the coordinator of the Small Business Services Group.

Jill has a B.A from Simmons University (Boston, MA), an M.Ed. from Arizona State University, and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from University of San Diego.  Jill enjoys travelling, reading, and going to the movies, theater, and sporting events.

Candidate:

Habib Islam, EC2

Muhammad Habibul Islam, EC2, embarked on his Toastmasters journey on January 1st, 2014. Currently, he actively participates as a member of Enigma Toastmasters and has held leadership roles within District 3, notably serving as Area Director for the term 2022-23 and Division Director for 2023-24. During his tenure as Area Director in 2022-23, he has been awarded as Distinguished Area Director.

Over the course of a decade within Toastmasters, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication by sponsoring seven clubs and facilitating the integration of Bangladesh into District 41. His contributions extend further as he previously served as Area Director for the term 2017-18 and Associate Program Quality Director for 2018-19 in District 41. Habib’s dedication for the Toastmasters community has been recognized twice through features in the Toastmasters Magazine.

Beyond his Toastmasters endeavors, Habib, an IT professional, exhibits a passion for embracing new technologies. Additionally, he is an enthusiastic Ham Radio Operator since 2008, identified by his call sign S21RP.

Outside of his professional and Toastmasters commitments, Habib generously volunteers his time as an English Tutor at ENGin in Ukraine, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Ukrainian youth with fluent and conversational English skills.

Division A Director

Candidate:

Chris Pettit

Chris Pettit has been a Toastmaster since 2019, and has served in various capacities in the District, including as Area Director.  He is currently a member of Dobson Ranch Toastmasters.

Professionally, he worked as an IT Supervisor for Insight Enterprises, and as a byproduct to him losing 120lbs, he chose to retire and became an Entrepreneur and Certified Health Coach. This servant mindset has enabled him to grow his business, most especially from the contacts and skills he has obtained from Toastmasters.  He hosts weekly zooms for thousands of clients, and has been featured on stage in front of 15,000 other health coaches.

His passion for getting folks healthier led him to joining an American Ninja Warrior gym, and he instantly fell in love.  He now trains 2-3x/week alongside 4 of his children.

Barbara Schumacher, DTM

Toastmaster since December 2001

Goals:

• Become a successful Division A Director for the 2024-2025 year.
• Work with a team of Area Directors who attend and report at District Executive Council meetings.

• Provide ADs with info to gain members and reach 10 DCP goals.
• Encourage participation in club contests.
• Promote the value of club membership growth.

Aspirations:

• Seek Leadership Potential in members.
• Encourage Acceptance of Leadership roles.
• Add one new club to District 3

Summary:

Passionate about Toastmasters, I am humbled and honored to have received the Juris Kursulis Spirit Award as well as the OTMOTY for District 3, 2021-2022. I am a member of four D3 clubs, one of which I founded. I am married to the love of my life and run an established manufacturing company.

Division B Director

Candidate:

Sara Cowen

Sara is a Program Manager in Intel and regularly communicates at various levels of the organization. To improve her communication and leadership skills, in 2021 she joined Project Masters Toastmasters Club and  has participated in multiple officer roles, completed a Youth Leadership Training (2024) and is serving as Area Director (2023-2024). She truly believes that practice develops skills and enjoys building effective clubs so that the members are motivated and encouraged to participate and role model our values of integrity, respect, service and excellence!

Division C Director

Candidate:

Abhijit Roy, DTM

Relevant work experience is in the field of Business Development & Tendering. Being in a managerial role it is extremely important for me to manage various processes related to bidding for mega projects. Market analysis and survey, talking to clients and understanding their needs for project execution is part of the responsibility. Indeed this experience relates to Toastmasters as we all know that in this platform, we get to become better communicators and leaders. As a District leader, it is extremely important to manage a team of individuals and learn the art of delegation by equally showing leadership and ownership.

Having Tendering & Contracts as a portfolio in my role, I deal with valuation of currencies on a regular basis with respect to costing & pricing. In addition, due to the role of Business Development, always get to refer Balance Sheets & Profit & Loss statements.
Have been trainers at TLI’s 3 times as a Treasurer.

Candidate:

Ryan Burns, DTM

Ryan Berns exemplifies dedication and involvement in both his personal and professional pursuits. Since joining Dobson Ranch Toastmasters, he’s been committed to serving as a club officer, showcasing his enthusiasm for public speaking, leadership, and personal growth. Beyond Toastmasters, Ryan extends his passion for coaching by mentoring youth lacrosse players, while also excelling as a Wealth Management Advisor at Merrill Lynch.

In his leisure time, Ryan cherishes moments with his family, engaging in activities like pickleball, golf, and ballroom dance. He got married to his beautiful bride Haley in October.

Division D Director

Candidate:

Chad Reid, Pathways Lvl 1

Chad is a seasoned Toastmaster, having embarked on his journey with Toastmasters International in 2005 at Paradise Toastmasters in District 49 (Honolulu, Hawaii). This was after his honorable separation from the US Air Force and during his college years. Since then, Chad has been an active member across multiple districts, including District 11 (Kentucky & Indiana) and District 3 (Arizona), and is currently a member of Maverick Toastmasters.

Professionally, Chad’s career has primarily been in the Information Technology sector, where he currently works as a strategist specializing in analyst relations for Insight Enterprises in Chandler, Arizona. He is a licensed member of the Kentucky Bar Association, but doesn’t currently practice law.

Outside of Toastmasters and his professional life, Chad is an avid supporter of Arizona State University (ASU), participating actively in alumni events as a member of the ASU W.P. Carey Business School Alumni Association and the President’s Club. He also has a passion for learning foreign languages, having achieved the A2 level in French. Additionally, Chad is committed to staying fit and participates in CrossFit on a daily basis.

Division E Director

Candidate:

Sherly Meckle

Since Sheryl joined Toastmasters in February of 2017,  She has found that Toastmasters is truly a life changing program, as long as you have the desire to challenge yourself to develop your potential in ways that you didn’t even know you could.  She has served in all the Roles of the Executive Committee and has served many times as a teacher/facilitator at TLI in D50 along with serving as Program Quality Education co-chair.  She has been successful as a Club Coach and Club mentor, and has sponsored the start of a Corporate club. While building a club she still managed to receive a Triple Crown November of 2023. Her desire to educate members and future members of Toastmasters International is magnetic as she leads by example.  Sheryl was D50 Frontier Division STAR for March 2022, selected by the Division Leadership for outstanding Toastmasters service.

Sheryl’s desire is to bring her outstanding service to District 3 and to continue in strengthening the Toastmasters clubs by building up the individual members, to meet their needs and energize them to share what they have learned, which in turn builds clubs. She has a giving personality and is always willing to share her knowledge to make those around her stronger.  She is committed to building up people, building up Clubs and building up her community.  She will not make “world peace” but the piece of the world she is in will be left with more self- confidence.

With her Professional talent as a Master Data Analyst and Toastmasters endeavors, Sheryl enjoys getting away from a desk by motorcycle riding with her husband and hiking with her Dad and friends. Not only is she new to Arizona she just moved to Vail so her dogs have more room to run.  She is looking forward to another active year.
